Toasting nuts improve their taste, aroma and texture. And it's soooo easy 😀
what you need:
- nuts, any amount that would allow you to place them in a single layer
- a large cookie sheet, covered with parchment or foil
what to do:
- Preheat oven to 150C / 300F degrees. (I always prefer a lower temperature)
- Place the nuts in a single layer in a cooking sheet.
- Bake for 10 to 15 minutes but, after 10 minutes, check regularly, unless they are pine nuts, which will toast at about 4 to 5 min.
- Watch closely as nuts will burn quickly.
- Remove from the oven and transfer the foil or parchment with the nuts to a cool surface, like the kitchen countertop.
- Cool completely before storing.
Note:
- Different nuts will roast faster than others.
- You can roast different kinds of nuts at the same time, as long as you do not mix them, as they can roast at different times. Keep them separate making small trays of foil on the cookie sheet but always having them on single layers.
- If you buy nuts and is not going to use them in a week, store them in the freezer because they have lots of oil and they can go rancid.
Aproximate roasting time of different nuts:
- Pine nuts - 5 min
- Amonds, walnuts and pecans - 10 min
- Hazelnuts - 14 min
