Vegetable Broth Powder

This vegetable broth powder recipe is a healthy substitute for store bought vegetable or chicken bouillon.

You make the broth by mixing the powder mix with water and your choice of salty condiment such as soy sauce, tamari, marmite, vegemite, or balsamic vinegar. Some call it umami.

You can also use the broth mix for seasoning :)

I have researched a variety of recipes for broth powder and some do not call for umami. However, in my opinion, you will achieve a richer taste if you add the salty condiment. Without it the broth tastes too bland.

what you need:

  • 4 tablespoons  of Himalayan salt ( or any salt really)
  • 2 tablespoons dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried dill
  • 2 teaspoons dried thyme
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon celery seeds

what to do:

Place all ingredients in a mini food processor or the small attachment/container of a blender, such as Magic Bullet or Nutribullet, and blend until powdered. A regular food processor is too big for the amount of ingredients, but if this is your choice make sure the ingredients are well distributed in the container.

Keep it in an air tight container.

To make 1 cup of broth

  • 1 teaspoon broth powder from the recipe above
  • 1 teaspoon your favorite umami such as tamari, (which is my favorite), or soy sauce, or marmite, or balsamic vinegar)
  • 1 cup water
Mix them up.

Notes:
You can also use marmite or vegemite as the umami.
