parmesan and garlic croutons

Use these croutons as a tasty crunch to salads and soups, or enjoy them as snacks.

You can increase or decrease the amount of ingredients according to your taste.

You can use melted butter instead of olive oil or a combination of both.

Time in the oven is crucial on this recipe.

Use stale bread, toast or a day old baguette

What You Need:

  • About 200 gr stale bread
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 6 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 garlic cloves, mashed
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Optional: dried herbs like parsley, oregano or thyme.

What To Do:

Preheat oven to 180C

Mix all ingredients but not the bread in a large bowl

Cut bread into small cubes and toss them into the bowl stirring until all pieces are covered with the oil mix.

Spread bread cubes on a large baking sheet on a single layer.

Bake for 20 to 25 minutes.
After 10 minutes toss the croutons.
Keep tossing and checking the croutons every 15 minutes.

The croutons must be crisp and golden so on the last 15 minutes keep watching and trying them to see if they are crispy inside as well.

Let them cool off completely in the baking sheet before storing, about 1 to 2 hours.

Better if used the same day.

Store in airtight container.
